چکیده

In this article, we propose a content-based color adaptation method for color vision impairment, especially for anomalous trichromats, to improve color information accessibility. Color degradation caused by anomalous trichromacy is compensated in digital color content with a range of the visible spectrum corresponding to color deficiency characteristics. To verify the usefulness of the proposed method, we performed clinical experiments as well as computer simulations. The results of both the experiments and the simulations show that the proposed adaptation could convey better color information to anomalous trichromats. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Compensation for red-green contrast loss in anomalous trichromats.

For anomalous trichromats, threshold contrasts for color differences captured by the L and M cones and their anomalous analogs are much higher than for normal trichromats. The greater spectral overlap of the cone sensitivities reduces chromatic contrast both at and above threshold. But above threshold, adaptively nonlinear processing might compensate for the chromatically impoverished photorece...

27. The relative salience of the cardinal axes of colour space in normal and anomalous trichromats

By imposing rival perceptual organizations on a regular spatial array, we have measured the relative salience of colour differences along the two cardinal axes of colour space. Results are reported for normal and anomalous trichromats. For most, but not all, anomalous trichromats S cone modulations are relatively more salient than they are for normal trichromats. The spatial separation of the e...

Anomalous trichromats' judgments of surface color in natural scenes under different daylights.

Deuteranomalous trichromacy, which affects medium-wavelength-sensitive cones, is more common than protanomalous trichromacy, which affects long-wavelength-sensitive cones. The aim of the present work was to test the extent to which these two kinds of anomalous trichromacy affect surface-color judgments in the natural world. Simulations of 18 natural scenes under different daylight illuminants w...

Color constancy of red-green dichromats and anomalous trichromats.

Purpose. Color-vision deficiency is associated with abnormalities in color matching and color discrimination, but its impact on the ability of people to judge the constancy of surface colors under different lights (color constancy) is less clear. This work had two aims: first, to quantify the degree of color constancy in subjects with congenital red-green color deficiency; second, to test wheth...

The effect of photopigment optical density on the color vision of the anomalous trichromat

We present a theoretical model to estimate the influence of photopigment optical density (OD) on the color vision of anomalous trichromats. Photopigment spectral sensitivities are generated using the Lamb (1995) template, which we correct for OD and pre-receptoral filters. Sixteen hyperspectral images (Foster, Nascimento, & Amano, 2004; Nascimento, Ferreira, & Foster, 2002) are analyzed, and th...
